Re: Gunshot mufflers, the legal kind
Couple of friends have built sound tunnels over the years. A rack to hold a series of tires seems to work about as well as any. I would drill a large hole in the bottom of each one in order to drain any rainwater and unburned powder. Whether pistol or rifle, unburned powder is a fact of life. Keep i...

While I personally don't care much for nickel, that's a decent price in anybody's book. Just be prepared for the two loads to have two different points of impact. From past experience, the ArmiSport is not even in the same league as the Pedersoli, if it absolutely had to be Italian. Before either, I would do as suggested and check on availability of a Shiloh or C. Sharps.

Re: How is this idea for a 38-40 levergun?
Talk to your gunsmith, but with your wanting to go beyond factory type load levels, a barrel liner will likely not be the way to go. With anything other than low pressure loads, liners have had a tendency to loosen. A replacement barrel would seem to be the route. With the popularity of .40 S&W'...

Low velocity round ball loads have a tendency to ricochet so beware of firm to hard targets or backstops. For my loads, I always gave the projectiles a light wash in Lee Liquid Alox. I never had a problem with leading after I started using the alox treatment.

Easy answer: for lonesome lawmen in Texas, 1911's were the first serious improvement in working handguns over the SAA. Why they're still prevalent? It's just taken this long to find anything that might even come close to taking the 1911's place in Texans' holsters. Outside the big cities, they still...

Several thoughts come to mind. First, different bases or extension rings to move the scope back. Second, a lower power scope, especially inside 250 yards. A good receiver sight helps a lot, but if you add a blade front with a white center stripe (XS) things really perk up. The blade gives so much better definition to elevation and windage that your confidence factor is surprising. Two hundred yards becomes not trick at all.
