Not levers but still guns

They are very interesting to me, particularly because the technical articles are so much better than today's, the authors back then gave their readers credit for being able to read and comprehend! A glance through t...

OK, all you experts,
I have two older rifles that I shoot quite a bit and were shot quite a bit before I got them. In both, there is some whiteish deposit or something in the grooves of the rifleing. It aint lead. They wont budge regardless of what I do, JB wont touch 'em, same for Flitz, same for Sweets, etc. What is t...

OK, all you oldtime cowpokes,
In movies, in TV documentaries and in oldtime photos, the cowboys are wearing big ol' leather cuffs on their forearms. Exactly what is the purpose of those cuffs ?

I have one that has been in the family since the 1930's, it was owned by my older foster brother when he was a young cowboy in the Dubois WY area before WWII. It eventually passed to me. It is very very used, as you might expect for a rifle that spent years in a saddle scabbard. I now use it for Met...

I agree with Hobie, it's YOUR rifle, make it for you. The 25-20 is a neat little round, lots of fun and cheap to load. The 25-35 is a whole lot better than you might think. It was a seriously competitive round back in the 1920's and 1930's, used in many custom single shots for varminting and what be...

Big ol' golden eagles will attack larger animals and kill them. Sheepherders in the west for years were armed and under orders to shoot every one of them they saw and raid their nests due to sheep losses. Big question is what to do with the sights. I like the Lyman 66, not sure what else it out there for the 39. For silhouette, almost everyone of my acquaintance uses the Marble's tang sight and a Lyman 17a with the wide post. I have a Marlin 30-30 that had a Lyman receiver sight on it, I didnt like ...

Great day at the range
Yesterday, Friday, we had 29 shooters at our weekly Smallbore Lever Action Silhouette shoot. Perfect weather, started off at 0830 at about 60 degrees and about 80 by noon, with mild breezes. Managed a 33x40 with my 39a and 18x40 with my Sako 78 on the smallbore targets. About half of us went to lunc...

I have a CZ 527 Hornet, very accurate with 35 grain Hornady vmax and Lil Gun powder. Getting close to 3000 fps, great red mist factor. Also, I have a Savage 23 in .22 Hornet, it likes the 4227 powder better and shoots almost as well as the CZ, which is pretty darn good for a rifle made in 1932. I ha...
