One could do it in a more legal fashion than Dallas did. He had a reputation for being a poacher, killing game when neither he nor anyone else needed it. If you have or can borrow a torque driver, use it. Per Wheeler Engineering, torque should be 10-15 in/lb for aluminum rings, 15-20 for steel. I use mid-range values for both, no loctite and have never had a problem with screws working loose (.22 LR and .223).

I've never heard of a Colt/Wesson, but back in the same era (ca 1960) there was a fairly popular conversion called a "Smolt" being done. These were Colt Python barrels on S&W K-frames. Don't ask me why.
