Chamber dimensions including chamber mouth, gap between cylinder and forcing cone, bullet diameter all play a part, no two guns are the same. Laws unto themselves. Must admit I prefer the Colts over Ruger and S&W revolvers. Especially the pre war revolvers.

Wow sixgun, that is a beauty of a SAA as to provenance I hope all turns out well.
RL Wilson states that only 154 SAA were made in 44 Russian, so shes a rare beast without doubt.
Flat top targets 51, Bisleys 29 and Bisley targets 64.

Out of a lever 38/40 closely followed by 44/40.

Handgun, 357mag out of a Python.
Old west then without doubt my Colt SAA 45 Colt. Crude sights etc but superbly accurate with 250g Westcastings 250g RNFP backed by 7.8g Universal.

Very interesting. Just goes to show revolvers are all individuals. My S&W 686 does not like 38spl cartridges of any loading, shoots them ordinarily to say the least. However throw a 357 ctg loaded with 158g lead projectile backed by 6.0g of Universal and it will shoot so accurately its uncanny. ...

Lever, my 1903 Win 92 Octagonal barrel full mag in 38/40.

Revolver. without doubt my Colt Python 1973 4 inch. Closely followed by my Colt SAA 3rd gen 2008 build 45 with slicked action.

Might I suggest a book by Mike Venturino titled Shooting Colt single actions in all styles, calibers and generations. Its been a great help to me and he even lists some good smiths to do the kind of work your SA may require. Its a very good read.

IMHO in single actions, lead projectiles are king, its what they were designed for. Thats not talking about the Big Rugers and others, just traditional SA revolvers.

I have heard so many bad reports on their products that I wont even consider them. Rather get an old beat-up Winchester, spend the money on getting it serviceable. It usually dont take too much either after a good strip and clean providing the barrel is in reasonable condition.

Colt SAA 45 never missed a beat. With my load of 250g RNFP and Universal powder shoots where it looks at 25 yards. If I do my bit properly. Personal pref is the straight grip. Sorry to say I have never shot a lever that was not a straight grip. They have never let me down. They just fit me perfectly.
Everything just seems to happen in a fast sequence with sights aligned, I am average height at 6ft and 13/14 inch pull is sweet.

The ADI powder you mentioned is known here as AR2205. Hodgdon now sells in the states as H4227, it is not temperature variant and remains totally stable over a whole range of ambient temperatures as does all ADI powders. Very pleased to hear everything ended up OK with no accidents. My 1873 Uberti in 44WCF is cleaned after every outing, probably a good habit to get into.
The extractor recess is easily cleaned with a bristle brush and solvent. Good shooting and rgds.
