Bullets for the .348 WCF
On tuesday I paid the deposit for a Winchester Mod 71 standard rifle, 1947 vintage. The last evenings I have browsed this forum for information about good loads for it to use on moose. There ws a lot of good reading about the cartridge! Most forists seem to prefer heavy bullets as the Barnes Origina...

When I had a .375W, I loaded it with Barnes 255 grs FN and 34 grains of Norma 200. The velocity was about 625 meters/second, which should be about 2000 fps.

.308W is a great cartridge. When the Win 88 and I do our best at the bench, we pattern five 165 grs Hornady IB in a 1" circle, sometimes tighter. Low recoil, great accuracy, simple to load och efficient enough for most game.

A long time I have been considering to extend my arsenal with a Winchester mod 1895 in .405 WCF. However, having read some texts about it, there are some comments on strong and unplesant recoil, to some part due to the bent stock design. What are your opinions ánd experiences? Nice German pre-war shotgun from a high class maker! If you take a close look at the action, there is a screw behind the fences, which indicates that the gun have top-hinged sears, which should give a crispier pull. This improvement was invented by the Suhl gunsmiths, and is still used on the German...

You won't obviously spare a single penny, as you will realise how fun and interesting reloading in itself is. S&B hunting cartridges are fine, and have good quality. But I would not suggest anyone to use S&B cheap training ammo. Here in Sweden S&B has got a bad reputation at the shooting ranges after stuck bolts, blown cases and one or two gun blow-ups. Try to find Norma, Lapua or RWS loads for ...

We take roe deer and lynx here in Sweden with #3, 2 or 1 standard shot loads, and if distance is not further than 30 yards, they drop in their tracks when hit with any shotgun bigger than 20 ga. Supposedly that should work fine with your coyotes too.

Be careful when buying a CG63. Many of them have been range rifles, and have been rebarreled twice, thrice or more. Chamber length was adjusted by turning the barrel harder into the reciever. Both cartridges will work, but 250 grs are better than 200 in the .348W. And both cartridges are tough enough.

Have gunsmith to make a chamber casting and to slug the bore. If it is a .32-40, just mark the barrel correctly and use that cartridge. If it is just a bad chamber, the smith can cut the base of the barrel ½", cut a new thread and then rechamber it correctly.
