Re: Because I want to....

How sure are you that the somewhat larger diameter S&W cases can be easily sized in a Special sizing die? I've done it. No sweat, though it seems 38 Short Colt will be a better way to go... Interesting. I have a 1851 Colt converted to 38 long colt. Will have to try some in my 92 to see how they...

This fall it's been the Browning 86 carbine in 45-70, with barrel shortened to 19 inches to make it the same length as a 94 SRC. It sports a williams receiver sight, huge bead front and a sling. What am I afraid of? Nothing! You're killing me with that  Still looking for a GOOD smit...

I killed a black bear at 150 yards with a flex tip hornady 356 Win. 200 gr. FTX, which is of course a .358. I hit the bear high in the shoulders, he went down instantly, never got up, I didn't recover the bullet because it exited, but it did much damage. He died before we could get to him. No compl...

Due to bullet shape it will shoot flatter, hit harder farther than flatnose ammo. Only you can tell if the slight extra cost is worth the enhanced ballistics,if u got a 300 yard range to shoot from.

Goes back to the black powder days when you needed 30"+ barrel length to completely burn powder. Old timers clung to that belief with addition of period gun writers tying barrel length into accuracy. Modern smokeless powders don't need the added length. And tests prove that a 16" barrel is...

The Hornady 325grn. Flex tips gives you a 300 yard elk/moose gun in a 45-70, that will also handle big bear. The trade off is weight. My Browning 86 SRC is noticeable heavier than a 92 .44mag, with the 44 doing it's best work under 150 yards. Depends on what you want to do with it, and how much gun ...

In my opinion, the 375 has no significant advantage over your 35 Remington. But if you're a collector, this could be a nice addition to the vault. TR Don't know. The factory ammo in a .375 will hit harder and bigger. If you reload, then it increases the margin. Not a big difference on deer, but, I'...

Defense up close, as opposed to hunting at extended range, the 9mm, 40, 45 acp will work about the same as a 45 L colt, 44m, etc. You gotta carefully place the bullets and keep shooting until the threat is over.

It's a trade off. If you want to dampen the recoil you gotta add weight, which negates the featherweight, unless you use hearing prot ection, even in the field  . Had a ported .44 mag handgun. Shot a deer with it and got rid of it.
