Thats a "tinners" hammer...mostly used in sheet metal and tin smith work.

Made one myself way back when.. High School machine shop project. need to take a pic and post it here.

If you insist... order a spare barrel and cut that down... retain the original parts if and modify some second hand parts to do the project.

cutting up a earlier (pre safety) 39 would be a mistake. If things dont work out you can always restore the rifle to it's previous value

soaking a loose hammer head in old motor oil will swell the head up... and it lubricates the wood grain in the handle.

I have a ball peen that is almost unbreakable after 20 years of heavy duty use...

Light bulbs, heat rods, dessicant all work wonders. In Florida, I'd run a fan in a room too... a flow of air into the closets and under the beds keeps the mold out...even with central AC

I like Oklahoma... it's drier than a popcorn fanny burp here.

for general purpose use... Klein tools or Snap on both make pretty good sets of allen keys. They seem to hold their shape and the bigger Klein sets are stout enough to feign with a wrench if needed.

I try to use a bit from a gunsmithing set if I can on guns.

I have a 1912 version SRC .... using the silvertip 117 grainers it drops Deer very well.

Just a nice cartridge to shoot... but it's hard to find and reloading is about the only way to go these days

Jewlers rouge... usually any big industrial supply can conjure up some... especially if the cater to the tool and die trade (we still do tool and die work in the USA, don't we). If you ever noticed the bushing on a high voltatge powerline transformer... the part that goes into the tank you don't see...

if they use it enough.... a well worn patina will take over. a few years of leather gloves, saddle scabbards and rough hands will get that Winny looking like a good old Indian nickle and the pits will buff right out. :)

go to the front page here at leverguns. there is a winchester resources link that takes you to a serial number production service. just remember... the Reciever on a '94 got dated when it was made. The actual rifle that was made up on that reciever may be a year or so newer... you may find a date on...

The Crescent stock hurts like the dickens if you place it square on your shoulder. It works pretty good if you stuck in more on the upper arm and that's the way a lot of old timers learned to shoot. For stationary shooting... using shooting sticks, that old time reclining prone etc the Crescent butt...

are we speaking of the '71 Colt clone? I think those are offered in 38 Special-correct? As long as you stay at normal 38 Special pressures I dont think you should have any problems with that pistol. Remember... Colt 44 Army revolvers were open top... and even with heavy blackpoweder loads held up ok...

I've tried the truncated- looking Winchester FMJ from a Marlin too... I'd dont worry about Round nosed lead either... if they were "spire pointed" I'd know better.

38 special sends short-range coyotes to coyote heaven...snakes too.

357, 125 grain JSP works on everything else.

I'd like something with a "4" in it...I dont care for 44 magnums... 45 LC would do the trick (or a .38-40... but I am an odd duck)

Mine's a 1968 version.... if I go easy on the coffee... 30 shots into a quarter sized group at 35 yards. Find one ....you will like it.

depends on the time of year... but a 357 Cimmeron Colt clone travels out back on the ranch property much of the time.

22 (SW 18) is a close second. When thats on the belt a Marlin carbine( 357) or a 30-30 is on the horse or in the truck anyway
