If you want to remove the multi-piece firing pin from the 86, I believe you could either aquire a replacement firing pin from an old style 86 or 71, modifying the tip if needed to fit your bolt, or just have one made to fit your bolt. Do some reading up on Acraglass. If you are careful and follow the directions and use the release agent properly it will fix your loose forend. Google "Acraglass" and "bedding a barrel" or something like that.

they come from the factory with an epoxy finish so I don't think you can get much moisture content in the wood. Maybe bedding it to the barrel with acraglass might tighten it up a bit.Pitchy wrote:. Can ya put some wood oil on it ?

Still working on the wood but took time off to convert the straight grip lever to a pistol grip lever. Got the torch out and heated the lever in several critical spots to make it fit. I was surprised at how "not so easy" it was. This was a try and fit operation - not for the faint of heart...

BTW, in the 86 action, you can load 45-70 with the bullets seated out to 90 length and not have the brass and chambering expense, if you have any bullets that work in that fashion. My Browning 1886 in .45-70 can shoot black powder loads. No problem. I can get the 405 grainers to just about 1500fps by using 3F Goex. If your loading black powder, that's a no-brainer. If we are using modern powders, why would a 45-90 chamber be better? I'm wrestling with this decision for my Browning 1886 which will only shoot modern powders. It looks like you can pound your shoulder plenty good with a 45-70.
