Re: Cowboy Action Day
If you are a CAS/SASS shooter shooting C&B revolvers the Slix-Shot nipples/cones are the way to go.
And Remington caps are the most reliable ignition to place on those cones. I use both Remington #10 & 11's , 10's seem to stay in better after ignition, they have a longer skirt.

Yep the 17 gr. of Red Dot was my dove/Quail load, back in the late 1970's early 80's. One hell of a bird load.
I would not use this load today with the current Alliant Red Dot. The Hercules Red Dot had a different burn rate than the new Red Dot.

We happened to be in Norfolk, VA on July 4 in the early 1990's. The parade of tall ships sailed in review in Norfolk harbor. Leading the parade was the USS Constitution, and Ships from 10 or 12 other nations.

Lever cartridge in chamber then manually cock the hammer. each and every time. Rather slow by todays standards of the Lever action. But a far cry over a ML musket, or over a single shot cartridge Fire arm.

The problem with Black Powder is the after effect of the wad and unburned powder. You can start a fire. For a 44 cal. C&B revolver measure out about 150 gr. of shot. And substitute for the ball. vary your powder charge according to the distance you are covering. You should be able to get 30 gr. ...
