Re: Added a Savage 99A 375 Winchester
When I was young I looked at 99's in a ho hum light and they were common and reasonable. My Father would just look at a 99A and tell me that's a beautiful rifle maybe someday. Well someday never came ,but has I am older now I really appreciate the 99 and the 99A more so. Seems like I only find them ...

I agree 100%. I have a T/C Black Diamond that changes POI as I shoot it and it fouls. So I shoot 4 and clean it and if I'm hunting I leave it dirty for a week which I never did with a blued rifle.

Old#7 That is a good find! I would love to have one like it. I knew of a warden who picked one out of confiscated poachers weapons and carried it for a truck gun for years. He loved it and said he really missed it when he had to turn it in upon retirement. I sure hope the ST didn't melt it down.

That's a nice eating buck also Les. I see I am not the only one to tape up a stainless rifle. I have one of the first inlines T/C came out with and taped as much as I could because it felt like a neon sign in the woods. I have had a poor season deer hunting and hadn't killed any. I usually have 2-3 by this time. Well I had evidence of a small buck behind the house but had put 4 or more days in several trees during archery season with no sightings along rub lines. I hunted a friends farm 2 miles down the road and sa...

My wife just had a knee replacement and when the visiting Nurse came she asked if we owned firearms. My wife said yes with out delay, she was then asked are they locked up? I always had better luck with .377-378. I would also recommend you powder coat a few bullets to try. It adds 1-3 thousandths of an inch and stopped leading. I can recommend NOE 235 flat points also, they actually shot almost as well as Hornady 220's.

If I recall correctly the 375 has a 1 in 12 twist which is faster than the 38-55's 1 in 16 so it should stabilize heavier bullets better so I don't think that's your problem. What dia. are the cast you are shooting ?

I haven't ever shot a 45 colt rifle but had a Ruger that I wish I still had! I notice that in a strong rifle with 300 gr bullets it gives up very little to the great 45/90 when it was loaded with black powder.

I powder coat my 300gr Ranchdogs for hunting in the 45/70 and they shoot better than ever. I have been told they are easy on the bore and one other plus I know is, you add 2 thousands to the dia of the bullet so it fills larger bores well.

Not sure if I would file them off, some of the plating peeled off with the expansion. I will admit I have some Speers that seem to have a thicker plate with the tip filed off flat to try.

Not that bullet but the Lyman 321297 and a NOE 323 180 gr. I load them over 27.5 gr of 30-31 or 25 of Reloader 7. Both loads shoot around 1900-2000 fps and could be heated up if I wanted.
I bet no moose would walk away from that bullet at 2000 more than 100 yards.

44WCF is easier to find brass and Jacketed soft points for. 38 WCF is what was popular in the Northeast so my family used it and I connect to its history. With cast bullets either is a great plinker and farm gun.
