Is this worth the price?

I have been looking for a revolver in 38-40 to go with an original Win 1873 in same caliber. I have no idea on the worth of Colt pistols. Anyone have an opinion as to whether this Colt is worth the minimum bid price?

Case head separation was mentioned. I assume this means the rim and just forward of the rim separated. What about the rest of the case? I have had BP loads in 45-110 separate with the forward portion of the case either going down the barrel and exiting with the bullet or lodging in the front portion...

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I went to the range and spent the whole day. Yes, I did shoot a lever gun--my Winchester 73. 40 rounds with two different loads. Also shot another lever gun--45-2 7/8 Sharps. Had a great day. Thanks again.

You have mentioned that Blue Dot had a burning rate that very closely matched BP. For the 38-40 in an 1873, what kind of a load would you start with using this powder?

How did the part break? Was it through normal usage (eg. firing the rifle using the set trigger function)? I own a 73 with the set trigger function and it works fine. Just don't want to break it, if I can help it.

I have a Winchester 1873 that was in similar shape--had the hardened grease inside. Worked for a whole day just to remove it. Mine had a set trigger and the fly had frozen so it no longer worked. I tried turpentine as a solvent and it didn't work. Found that Hoppes #9 cut the grease reasonably well....

Thanks to everyone who replied. I guess I'll go with about 8 gr of Unique. Another question. Do any of you have trouble metering Unique through your powder measures? It being a flat flake powder, sometimes I get erratic throws from my measure.

I am getting 2830 fps out of my 30-06 (chronographed) with 27 inch barrel. Use 60 gns Hogdon 4831SC, 175 gn Sierra MK, Lapua case, and Federal 210M primer. This is listed as a max load in Hodgdon manual.

You won't need to worry about the forums being too cumbersome. Very shortly you will remove the CLASSIFIED section--it will be illegal to sell/trade firearms in this manner. Also, forget being able to attend gun shows--they will be illegal also.
