I got to run the N&W 611 from Asheville, NC to Linwood, NC on its last trip to the museum in Roanoke. There is a lot of difference in a living, breathing, steam locomotive and a set of multiple-unit diesels. Had cars following on side roads all along the way. No comparison to blowing a steam whi...

I have been looking for a revolver in 38-40 to go with an original Win 1873 in same caliber. I have no idea on the worth of Colt pistols. Anyone have an opinion as to whether this Colt is worth the minimum bid price?

Case head separation was mentioned. I assume this means the rim and just forward of the rim separated. What about the rest of the case? Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I went to the range and spent the whole day. Yes, I did shoot a lever gun--my Winchester 73. 40 rounds with two different loads. Also shot another lever gun--45-2 7/8 Sharps. Had a great day. Thanks again.

KirkD,
You have mentioned that Blue Dot had a burning rate that very closely matched BP. For the 38-40 in an 1873, what kind of a load would you start with using this powder?

Kansas Ed,
How did the part break? Was it through normal usage (eg. firing the rifle using the set trigger function)? I own a 73 with the set trigger function and it works fine. Just don't want to break it, if I can help it.

I have a Winchester 1873 that was in similar shape--had the hardened grease inside. Worked for a whole day just to remove it. Mine had a set trigger and the fly had frozen so it no longer worked.
