Re: Anyone hunt with a 24" barrel on a levergun...and why?
I no longer hunt, but I shoot a lot of lever gun and BPCR silhouettes as well as gong matches. So I prefer the longer barrels -- 24 inch on pistol cartridge rifles, 26 inch on rifle cartridge guns, and 30 inch on single-shots for BPCR, octagon preferably -- the more weight out front, within reason, ...

mainehunter,
Try calling RCBS. I know they offer alternate expander plug sizes for various calibers, and I think they'll fit the Lyman M dies. You can also try Buffalo Arms in Ponderay, Idaho. I believe they'll make you a custom expander.

86er, The RCBS bullet works fine from the magazine of a lever gun as much of the bullet intrudes into the case when seated to the crimp groove. The 311299 I mentioned is suitable for a single-shot only. A .30-30 loaded with this bullet will not feed from a tubular magazine, and though it can be load...

Hi, Kirk, I have the same RCBS bullet, and mine weighs just under 200 grains as cast and a bit over 200 lubed and checked. I shoot a moderate load of 18.5 grains of 5744 in a Winchester 1894. Yep, deer camp is quite a place, especially for a young hunter. The smell of pine-knot ...

Kirk,
Bullets from my RCBS mould weigh 202 grains, lubed and checked. I'm loading much lighter with 5744 as I need only topple 200 meter rams with mine.
