Beautiful. Hard to think that it's snowing up there while it's in the 60's here. I am enjoying the cool weather though - back in Texas where I moved from it would stay warm all winter. I think they're just a fun range toy really as there are so many other better options for "social" and protective work... I have seen threads where people are showing decent accuracy at 50 yards and in but I don't know how quickly the action can be cycled... some owners will pipe up soon I...

I've got a few loads still of the hot rod level and I'll shoot em up but once they're done, I'm going to work up a nice load for deer hunting - like the 1200 fps load listed by rocksteady. There's a perfect condition Norinco SKS with bayo and everything sitting on the local pawn shop rack that keeps calling to me... $300 - which is a fair price. Not a steal but it keeps calling, calling.

Yes - I've done this and using the same propellant that I use with 30-30 get 150-200 fps or so faster velocities. This is W748 and IMR 3031. I am sure going with RL15 or other similiar, I could improve on this. The 30-30 AI is one of the best AI's to do in terms of real velocity increase. Ditto for ...

Re: .30 carbine... Am I missing something?
The 30 Carbine generates about 836 ft lbs of energy out of a M1. It is actually quite a bit less energetic than a .357 Magnum from a carbine which gives over 1100 ft. lbs. In it's fmj guise, it will penetrate quite well, but the wound channel will be realatively small. With soft points, that penetra...

Re: .30 carbine... Am I missing something?
The answer has been written IMHO. The fact that so many carbines were made and then went out to surplus along with inexpensive ammo (for a long time) created a market for "go with's". Simple as that. Why so many 30-06's? Why so many 45ACP guns? When you compare the 30 Carbine to these two ...

I use h110 and rem 110 gr soft points and they work great in my Saginaw.
Load is 14.5 gr for book velocity of 1950fps.
