Just a question regarding attendance at the SHOT convention: Is it open to the public at large or must you be a part of the shooting sports industry? Thanks!!

I, too, enjoyed the tale and accompanying picture. I missed the caliber on that rifle; what is your EBR? I once visited the Purdey shop while in London; was able to hold a beautiful SXS that was brought to me by an old gentleman all clothed in white. He seemed as immaculate as the gun was beautiful....

Re: firewood

I live outside of Flagstaff, AZ; elevation at my place is 7400 feet. We heat our 2 story log home EXCLUSIVELY with aspen. It's not the best firewood, but it works great. We've got several year's supply on our property in the form of standing dead, large trees. We typically wait for windthrows, then ...

Re: OT- Home Tanning Kit..?

I've used a product called Curetan from VanDyke's Taxidermy. You can look them up on the internet. The key to softening is to work the hide when it becomes (seemingly) dry to "breakdown" the fibers. There is quite a bit of information on tanning hides/pelts on the internet. One place to lo...

Shot 3 deer with my .243 this year. All were hit just behind the front leg at ranges less than 100 yards. Two dropped in their tracks; a 9-point buck went about 40 yards, though he was dead all the way.

Re: OT- What are some of the things your grandfather taught you?

My paternal granddad showed me how to dig worms for fishing by putting a manure fork into the lawn under his lemon trees and moving the handle up and down for a couple of minutes. Believe it or not, the worms seemed to "boil up" out of the dirt to be easily picked up. He said he learned of...

Re: OT-Predator hunting at night, owl trouble.

About 45 years ago while living in Tucson, Az. I had great-horned owls come into a jackrabbit call on a few occasions. Once, like RR7's experience, an owl actually hit my cowboy hat. This was most unnerving, to say the least, and resulted in a limited ability to focus on terrestrial predators. Owls ...

Re: Old Tintype of winchester lever.

Lots of photos taken with the old view cameras come out reversed. Right-handed gunslingers look like their holsters are reversed for example. Maybe the photographer had to do something "special" to make them be properly oriented. If you've looked through those cameras you've probably notic...

Justajeepguy: Hey, those squirrels do more to carrion than eat it. About 45 years ago a mammalogist saw a ground squirrel attempt to mate with a road-killed ground squirrel. Amazing the knowledge base of these forum members. I'd bet a bunch it is a rock squirrel just from your description and where it's found. I taught mammalogy for many years at two of the three universities in AZ.

Yep, AZ Game and Fish would just say to "live with it and don't feed it."

Try using a small noose (about 1-2 inches diameter) of thread or dental floss at the end of a fishing pole to catch lizards; it's great fun!

Keep the line between the rod-tip and noose short or you'll have problems with the wind blowing your loop or branches of shrubs tangling your line.
