45 Colt Gallery Load

I am going to work up some Gallery loads for the 45 Colt. I want to use round balls for the load. I was thinking .454 would be the right size round ball. What do you guys think?? These will be used in a handgun and a rifle. Tom.

I sold one about 7 or 8 years ago for $600. And it did not take long to sell for that price. It is one of the ones I wish I hadn't sold. Only problem I did not like about mine was the aperture sight. On mine there was no marks for adjustment. You had to make the marks yourself. Tom.

The bigger heavier bullets are definitely an advantage in the 22 caliber. However that advantage goes to the 22-250, not the 223. I spoke to a rep at Hornady today. And they definitely do have an adapter that allows you to bell the case mouth and drop powder at the same station. That is a great feature. And seals the deal for me. I am ordering the Hornady LNL. Tom.

Lee has crimping dies and they worke fine and I highly recomend one. I use a 5 station press crimping as a seperate operation. I have a .454 but haven't loaded for it yet. I doubt you could get the .45 case up into the .454 die to crimp. The opposite is true thought, .45 dies will work for .454. OK...

I am not sure where or what you hunt. But I would probably keep the 44 magnum and the nicest 30-30 that I had. Obviously you are wanting the money, so cost of shooting your firearm is also a consideration. The 44 and the 30-30 would be the cheapest to shoot. And will easily get the job done. Tom.

Before you do anything just JB the bore and try a thicker patch. Even go .005 lower on the ball if you have to. But definitely try a thicker patch. Did you look for your patches down range??
